I have a few tips to share about caring for your vintage rentals. Top of the list: please do not over crowd the vintage sofa! I know you want that cool shot with everyone at the sofa, and there are great ways to capture that scene, but having everyone piled on the sofa is NOT the way to do it! Most vintage sofas are not created to have people sit on the arms, or on the back of the frame. There is delicate woodwork, and structure of the piece to think of. This is one of my all time favourites of a family shot on one of our vintage sofas! Vintage brass candlesticks are an absolute favourite for our wedding clients. We love a good slightly tarnished brass candlestick, but we DO NOT love the wax remnants and residue left on them when returned! The quickest + easiest way to clean the wax off is with hot water. I suggest a large catch bucket and a kettle. Don't forget to wear an oven mitt to hold the brass pieces...they can get hot! Pour the hot water over the wax on the brass piece to melt into the catch bucket. Do not let the wax drain into your sink - this is not a happy place for wax. You can let the catch bucket sit to cool, the wax will harden, and then you can drain the water through an old strainer to keep the wax remnants from going down the drain. Vintage glasswares and place settings are best washed + dried by hand. The delicate china and glass is not made for heavy duty dishwashers at venues + restaurants, and we prefer you not even put them through a home dishwasher, for the same reason. If your event does not allow for time to properly hand wash and dry before packing up for return, we ask that they are rinsed off, and then properly repacked individually in the bubble wrap provided. We individually wrap each piece in bubble wrap to ensure proper transport for our clients. Each piece is then hand packed in a bin, and inspected before leaving the studio. We ask that the pieces are returned in the bin that is provided as well. Our coffee tables and side tables can really take a beating when it comes to water circles, hot spots and spills on the glass and wood finishes. We have great furniture polish + cleaners, but sometimes, they just don't take care of those marks + spots! We have created some fun Orange Trunk Sit + Sip coasters for our clients that book our coffee and side tables. We would love for you to encourage your guests to use coasters (ours or yours!) to ensure there is no damage to the tops of the tables. You can use the images below to pin to your event Pinterest boards for future reference. I sure hope this will help you to keep the vintage pieces you rent in great shape for return to the vendor. I know we, and I'm sure they, will appreciate it! Join us next week, when our blog revisits a beautiful spring styled bridal gown shoot. Chicks, and goats and donkeys, oh my! Until then ~H |
